The quiet problem

Most journals ask you to write into silence. You put down the hardest thing about your day, close the cover, and nothing comes back.

Buddy was made for the moment after the last sentence — when what you wrote deserves an answer, and you deserve to feel heard.

How it works

An entry, start to shelf.

  1. Write it down — or just say it.

Type, talk, or share a photo or video. Voice becomes text, and Buddy actually takes in what you show it — not just what you type.

  2. Buddy listens first.

It reflects what you said, then asks the next right question. No advice unless you want it. No forced silver linings, ever.

  3. File it on your shelf.

Keep diaries by year or by topic — Buddy suggests where an entry belongs, and you have the final say. Entries are append-only, so no one rewrites history. Not even you.

Inside the app

Four rooms, one warm presence in all of them.

EntryA diary that talks back

An ongoing conversation, not a blank page. Buddy greets you by name and time of day, reads your photos and videos, and hears your voice notes. What’s written stays written — entries are append-only, so the diary stays honest.

ShelfYour diaries, your way

Name diaries by time — “Year 2026” — or by topic — “Career,” “Health.” One entry can live in several, filed by keyword. Buddy suggests the filing; you always have the final say.

PatternInsight, not surveillance

A daily check-in where you rate your own mood, energy, productivity and more. Weekly, monthly and yearly reports are drawn only from your numbers — Buddy never guesses how you feel. Its suggestions can join your goals list, or be rejected. Rejection is honoured.

Magic BoxTools for hard moments

Box breathing, breathwork, biofeedback regulation and guided meditations — always one tap away, even in the middle of an entry. For the moments when writing isn’t enough yet.

Personas & real memoryThe right voice for each diary

A steady coach in “Career.” A gentle friend in “Personal.” Choose or create Buddy’s voice per diary. And Buddy remembers — across entries, across diaries — but never brings up a topic from another diary unless you do. What it remembers about you is written in plain language, and it’s yours to edit.

Private by designA diary with a lock, like it should be

A mandatory passcode plus two-step verification. Encrypted cloud storage, synced across your devices. Voice notes are transcribed and the raw audio discarded. Sign in with Apple or Google — and Buddy’s memory of you stays under your hand.

The anti-streak

Five out of seven is a good week.

Most apps keep a chain and dare you not to break it. BUDDY doesn’t. Your week is simply counted — a nightly check-in, a square at a time.

Miss a day and nothing shatters. It’s just a quiet red square, sitting there without comment. No “don’t lose your streak.” No chasing. The diary is there again tomorrow, and so is Buddy.

5/7 this week

What you tell a diary, you tell no one.

Locked, always

A mandatory passcode plus two-step verification. There is no “skip” — a diary should have a lock.

Encrypted in the cloud

Your entries are stored encrypted and synced across your devices, so the diary is wherever you are.

Your voice isn’t kept

Voice notes are transcribed to text. The raw audio is discarded — the sound of your voice is never stored.

Memory you can edit

What Buddy remembers about you is written in plain language. Read it, change it, delete it — any time.

Fair questions

Before you trust us with a diary.

No. BUDDY is a journal — a place to be heard, not a treatment. The conversation quietly draws on evidence-based approaches like CBT, but there are no exercises to complete, no diagnoses, and no promises about your mental health. If you’re carrying something heavy, a professional is the right person to carry it with you.

They become text, and the raw audio is discarded. Your words are kept in encrypted cloud storage; the sound of your voice is not kept anywhere.

Buddy remembers across entries and diaries — that’s what makes the conversation feel real. But it never volunteers a topic from another diary unless you raise it first. What it remembers about you is written in plain language, and you can edit or delete any of it.

You can always add — a correction, a second thought, the next morning’s view. But entries are append-only: nothing is quietly rewritten, so your diary stays an honest record of what you actually felt.

BUDDY launches on iOS first. The app is built in Flutter, so the Android version follows close behind. The waitlist is the first to hear when it lands.

BUDDY is free to start, with a subscription after that. Pricing isn’t final yet — waitlist members will hear it first.

Start where you are.

Tonight counts. A few sentences, one gentle question back — and a diary that finally answers.
